The aesthetics of modern and urban sophistication blended with prime city waterfront views made Casey and Erik’s District Winery DC wedding a stylish and beautiful celebration.
As a DC wedding photographer, I appreciate venues that offer elegance against the backdrop of some of the city’s best scenic locations. District Winery DC is a venue that blends modern architecture with scenic waterfront views of the Anacostia River at the iconic Navy Yard in Washington, DC. The winery offers an indoor ceremony space with floor-to-ceiling windows, geometric light fixtures, bistro lighting, sleek wood tones, and a private wine barrel room for unique industrial style portraits. District Winery is known for its excellent food and wine made on-site. The chef-driven cuisine emphasizes seasonal ingredients and fresh flavors.
Casey got ready in the bridal suite at District Winery with her mom and Erik’s mom. Although quite small, the wallpaper and fixtures added nice touches to her intimate editorial-style portraits.
Their portraits started pre-ceremony for their first look on the boardwalk, just a short walk from District Winery. After the ceremony, we snuck out to the walkway again for some golden hour portraits, which was ideal having the soft light and water views as their background.
Casey and Erik’s ceremony featured a white rose chuppa, a canopy used in Jewish weddings. Afterwards, their guests enjoyed appetizers outside on the rooftop patio while the staff flipped the ceremony space for the reception, adding long wooden tables and warm candlelight that complemented the winery’s urban warmth. Their entrance and hora dance were action-filled and high-spirited which was a lot of fun to photograph. The live band kept the dance floor full, and I loved capturing all of the candid and joy-filled moments of their friends and family letting loose. In lieu of a traditional cake cutting, Casey and Erik cut into an elaborate custom cheese tier, provided by the venue.
If you’re looking for a DC wedding venue that combines a modern aesthetic with the city’s natural beauty, District Winery is a great choice. The light and the waterfront views make it one of the most photogenic venues in the city and the ability to have a seamless event all under one roof add to its appeal.
