Washington, DC, is the perfect destination for couples seeking a memorable and intimate elopement. The city is full of stunning landmarks, historic monuments, and beautiful outdoor settings, making it one of the best places in the country to exchange vows in a civil ceremony creatively. As a Washington, DC wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many DC elopements and there’s no better place to celebrate your love in a quiet yet breathtaking way.
DC’s ideal location and the opportunity to make their wedding their own was just what Callan and Skyler wanted. Before doing their first look at the Library of Congress and portraits at the U.S. Capitol, they opted for a private civil ceremony at the WWII Memorial, followed by family and romantic portraits at some of DC’s most iconic locations: the Tidal Basin, and Smithsonian National Gallery of Art. Their day is a perfect example of how a simple and intimate DC elopement can be just as meaningful and visually stunning as a traditional wedding.
Callan’s mom drove us to the World War II Memorial for their civil ceremony and I just love the intimate moments I photographed between the two of them on the way.
After the ceremony, they signed their marriage license with the Jefferson Memorial in view along the tidal basin.
The tidal basin was perfect for family photos.
Their final portraits were taken inside and outside the National Gallery of Art.
