Almost like a scene out of “You’ve Got Mail,” Casey would walk from her apartment to take the train at Union Station to work every day. Little did she know that a new co-worker was also living in her building and taking the same train to the same hospital where they were both working as nurses. So it was only appropriate that once they fell in love and became engaged that they would have a wedding photographer in Washington DC take their photos at Union Station.
I met up with them in front of the iconic Amtrak and metro station and immediately loved what they were wearing. I knew that Casey’s white lace babydoll dress and Erik’s patterned cream sweater would look perfect with the architecture of Union Station.
One of the great things about photographing at Union Station is stepping outside and seeing the U.S. Capitol building in plain sight. Casey & Erik were game to take my suggestion to stand on the ledge in front of Union Station so I could frame them with the Capitol as a backdrop. With picture perfect blue skies and the historic landmark behind them, it is now one of my favorite DC engagement photographs.
From there, we walked across the street to Lower Senate Park. The park is an urban green space with shaded trees, paved walking areas, fountains, and a reflecting pool. The steps of the nearby Russell Senate Building was also idyllic for the last remaining photos.
Now that their engagement session is complete, I can’t wait for their wedding next May 2025 at District Winery in DC. Casey loves the industrial and chabby chic feel of the venue and I’m sure it will be amazing!
Union Station D.C. was designed by renowned architect Daniel Burnham and was completed at the turn of the century. The station has been restored into a mega hub for transportation and shopping right in the heart of the city and is undoubtedly one of the most iconic destinations in Washington, D.C.
