Washington DC Engagement Photographer
Shannon and Todd chose to have their engagement photos taken at the National Portrait Gallery because it is one of their favorite iconic museums in Washington DC. We first started their engagement photo session around Rock Creek Park walking with their adorable Scottish Terrier, Winnie. I’m sharing my absolute favorites from both locations.
The gallery includes collections of remarkable Americans artists, politicians, scientists, inventors, activists, and performers. As far as photography goes, just like other DC historical sites and museums, the gallery does not allow flash photography inside because flash units can damage the artwork.
Shannon is a DC lawyer so she wanted to start their engagement session in front of the famous portrait “The Four Justices“, a tribute to the four female justices who have served on the U.S. Supreme Court. We did several fun and different types of photos by the almost nine-and-a-half feet tall framed artwork hung on the west wall of the National Historic Landmark Building’s second-floor rotunda.
From there we went to the third floor in the Luce Foundation Center. I love the architectural design of the space with balcony overhangs and the geometric shapes of the flooring.
It was such a fun afternoon spent with Shannon & Todd, using such an architectural gem as the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery to announce their upcoming wedding. Although Shannon and Todd live in Washington, DC, they will be getting married near Todd’s family in Santa Barbara, California this fall. They are planning to showcase these DC engagement photos as part of their wedding reception decor.
