From photographing weddings at historic locations in Washington, DC to wedding celebrations in the DMV, my work expanded as a Virginia wedding photographer when I had the honor of photographing Kristin and Eric’s wedding in the historic and charming city of Fredericksburg.
Although I have been a Virginia wedding photographer for over four years since moving to DC, this was my first time ever setting foot in Fredericksburg and I can’t wait to go back. I fell in love with the city’s quaint downtown and Victorian homes while I rode along with Kristin and Eric in a horse drawn carriage to their reception, but more on that later.
Kristin and Eric began their wedding day with a reception at the historic Publisher Hotel, a Fredericksburg gem and former home to the Free Lance-Star Newspaper, known for its classic charm and intimate atmosphere.
The suite where Kristin and her bridesmaids got ready in at the Publisher was a wedding photographer’s delight because it was spacious and had lots of windows that provided beautiful natural light. I was even able to use a little balcony to create several detail photographs, including Kristen’s sequined butterfly pumps. The lighting enhanced the emotional moments with her mom and dad.
The hotel lobby and adjoining bar were also great natural lighting spots to do Eric’s portraits and shots with his groomsmen.

Their wedding ceremony was a quick elevator ride down to the hotel’s elegant ballroom, which was transformed into an intimate romantic space donned with soft pink florals, drape, and petite accent lights. Kristin looked stunning carrying a cascading bouquet of white Calla Lilies. Their wedding vows were full of emotion, both with happy tears and heartfelt laughs.

Following the ceremony and after formal photos were taken next door to the hotel, Kristin and Eric stepped into a horse-drawn carriage as their escort to their wedding reception at La Petite Auberge. Riding along with them allowed me to capture candid, joyful moments of their laughter, hand squeezes, and quiet smiles as they took in the emotions of finally realizing they were newlyweds. The golden hour light did not disappoint and only made their portraits even more beautiful.

La Petite Auberge, a beloved Fredericksburg restaurant known for its warm ambiance and exceptional cuisine, is a date night favorite for Kristin & Eric so it made sense to have the restaurant host their intimate wedding reception where their family and friends ate a five-star gourmet meal, felt relaxed, connected, and were fully present.

Documenting their entire wedding day in a city as charming as Fredericksburg, was a true highlight for me as a Virginia wedding photographer and as I mentioned, I’ll be planning a return trip just to shop!
