When your list of DC wedding photographers gets shortened with a recommendation from your florist. That’s how I thankfully had the honor of being the photographer for Ariell and Ted’s beautiful and intimate brunch wedding at one of their favorite places near DC, the Historic Cedar Knoll Inn on the Potomac, in Alexandria, VA.
When I heard Ariell’s story of almost giving up on love before God brought Ted into her life, I was immediately drawn to her warmth and authenticity and I knew I wanted to document their DC wedding.
Technically this brunch wedding was the second of a total of three weddings for Ariell and Ted. The first ceremony was held in San Francisco so Ted’s aging mother could attend. The final wedding ceremony was in Los Angeles at their home church with a large reception at the Hotel Bel-Air.
Ariell decided to add a third wedding on the east coast in the DMV to accommodate her father’s schedule and other Maryland relatives who were not be able to attend their LA wedding.
I arrived at the Cedar Knoll just as Ted, their pastor, and other guests were arriving to enjoy some appetizers and beverages. A few sprinkles started so Ariell’s Dad met her outside and escorted in to their ceremony held in the Inn’s grandest ballroom, the Lafayette Room. The Lafayette was later flipped for their brunch reception.
Ariell looked so radiantly beautiful elegant in her silk one-shoulder gown and birdcage veil. A cellist played as the ceremony began. Their wedding vows reflected their strong Christian faith and were performed by Ted’s good friend and pastor.
One special request from Ariell was that I take some quick portraits of them in their favorite date night booth in the Presidential Room overlooking the Potomac. I loved the lush leather seats, the chandelier and the historic presidential portraits.
An impromptu first dance seemed like a great way to get some practice in before their LA wedding.
The Cedar Knoll Inn features four indoor rooms and two outdoor ceremony spaces, each room offers different vintage decor. The Inn’s menu offerings are chef-inspired with elegant presentations.
The Cabin Room, that dates back to the 1800s with the original log and stone fireplace, was used for their cocktail reception and formal group photos. The Lafayette Room was used for their wedding ceremony and their reception. Enchanted Florist provided the stunning florals that really gave the reception room that extra special elegance.
It was a lovely wedding day for Ariell and Ted and obviously I’m biased, but I think this wedding topped all three. Congrats to this beautiful couple!
