Edmund and Cherie’s Washington National Harbor wedding was held at the Westin Hotel, on the Potomac River.
We started the day with Edmund and Cherie doing their first look at the scenic overlook with the Capitol Wheel in the background. It was a gorgeous sunny day and although the temperatures were in the 90s, the sky was crystal blue with fluffy white clouds.
Their wedding ceremony was held inside one of the second-floor ballrooms with a cocktail hour in the foyer. Their guests enjoyed a gorgeous view of the harbor through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Their color theme was burgundy and gold. Several reception tables had large bouquets of red roses wrapped in gold mesh set on gold risers. Other tables had votive candles floating inside tall glass pillars. Each guest received a special silver key as a wedding favor.
As Cherie and Edmund made their way through the procession, Cherie became emotional when she spotted her sister in the crowd as she had no idea she would be there. This was a sweet planned surprise by Edmund. I knew this in advance so I made sure to position myself to capture the special moment.
We made our way outside for formal pictures, but not before I photographed Cherie on the stairs in the lobby. The hotel’s dramatic wood staircase was a great well-lit spot for these stunning portraits.
Cherie changed into a white satin reception dress but kept her veil on just before it was time to go outside once again for their golden hour portraits. As the sky was darkening, the distant neon lights of the Capitol Wheel were just becoming visible which made their portraits even more beautiful.
If you’re considering having your wedding at the National Harbor, I highly recommend the Westin Hotel.
