It’s rare for me to do my senior sessions indoors, but I had the chance to with Delaney. I’ve been photographing her for Tutus on Broadway School of Dance where I’ve done Spring recital pictures, but this is Delaney’s senior year at Oviedo High School and she wanted to have dance portraits taken. I set-up my studio equipment in my home which worked great since we have cathedral ceilings. See my set-up here.
Her first costume had a gorgeous royal blue bodice with jewels and a tutu with multi-colored feathers.
The best part of Delaney’s senior session is that she brought every single ballet shoe since she was 4! What an incredible visual that created as she held them all tied together and dangling from her hand while on pointe. One of my absolute favorite dance pictures I’ve taken by far!
Her second costume was lavender and I was thrilled to be able to capture her skirt’s movement as she got on pointe. Delaney also showed she is quite skilled with her dance leaps.
Delaney’s last dance poses were in her simple and elegant black costume with a sheer skirt. She chose a dance pose that extended her foot to her hand. I wanted to do another portrait of her with her childhood ballet shoes, but only this time from above so I brought in my ladder to be able to shoot about 10 feet above her. I was really pleased how that shot turned out.
I couldn’t let Delaney leave her session without doing some shots outdoors in casual clothes to show off her gorgeously long blonde hair. She looked so amazingly exquisite in the afternoon light.
If you have a dancer and would like more info on my in-home studio dance sessions, let me know. I have been photographing dancers ages 2-18 since 2007 and would love to meet yours!
