I had the chance to photograph a miracle. His name is Joshua and he was born with skeletal dysplasia, which did not allow his bones to form properly. He has endured four surgeries since infancy and still suffers from severe scoliosis. He currently has to wear a body cast, braces on his legs and hearing aids. He has defied medical logic by being alive today. But all of these medical challenges do not stop him from living life to the fullest, blessing others with his infectious smile and did not stop him from having a blast at his 5th year birthday party at Painted Oaks Academy www.paintedoaksacademy.com. I was one of those who was personally blessed by his endless energy, his sense of humor and kind heart. Even though I was able to give beautiful stunning images from his birthday party to his mother and extended family to preserve the memories, what I received from him was so much more. These are some take away thoughts:
- The next time I am tempted to be in a bad mood when things are going wrong that I may perceive are huge, I will remember Joshua’s smile and laugh, and resolve to smile and laugh too despite my circumstances.
- The next time I am feeling frustration with my family, I will remember Joshua’s joy when he couldn’t pull his grandma’s hand fast enough to show her a special leaf, and I will find something joyful to share with my family.
- The next time I feel too tired to exercise or go on a bike ride with my family, I will remember how fast Joshua walked with his braces to feed a pony or how quick he was to dance to the music he heard on a speaker and I will realize my exercise is easy compared to his and I will do it any way.
